SHOWING CONTRAST.

ALTHOUGH / (EVEN) THOUGH and DESPITE / IN SPITE OF are connectors used to show contrast.

You have to remember the structure these structures need:

ALTHOUGH + Subject +  Verb
Although I was ill, we went for a walk.

DESPITE + V-ING
                 + Noun Phrase
Despite my illness, we went for a walk.
Despite being ill, we went for a walk.

If you wat some practice you can do these exercises:

CAUSATIVE HAVE

For those of you that still have problems with the structure Have + sth + done, hereyou have this presentation.

HAVE something DONE

When we study the Passive Voice we usually learn this structure: HAVE SOMETHING DONE.
Jill is having her roof repaired.

have + object + past participle

The meaning of this sentence is that Jill is not repairing the roof herself, the man on the roof is repairing it for her.

I need to have my car repaired really means that I don't know how to repair it and I need someone to repair it for me.

If you need to practice this point of grammar, here you have some easy exercises:

In Exercise 4 you can practice this grammar point with different tenses.
Try Exercise 5 if you think this structure is easy.

That is all for now.
